Good things come in 3’s….

very-inspiring

Yay!! My 3rd nomination for the Very Inspiring Blog Award. This one should be fun! Thank you so much to Speaking Out on Sex for the nomination. I love reading his blog and you should head over there too!

With the acceptance of this award I agree to state 7 facts about myself and to list 15 bloggers that you will find interesting, pinging back to a post of theirs, so they know I’m over here talking about them and that they have recieved the award. 😉 Of course I also display the beautiful award logo on my blog and link back to the awesome person that gave the award to ME. Thank you again Speaking Out On Sex!!

Okay, enough said, let’s get down to the best parts. 🙂 A little history trivia about me.

1. I was born at home to very hippy parents living in some sort of commune on the beach back in the mid 70’s. My parents were never married and from what I understand were basically just roommates/fuck buddies of some sort. My mom was 19 and planned to get an abortion, but my dad convinced her not to. They had no money but grew a garden with the other residents and lived off raw, vegan foods, with a little help from the Hare Krishna’s, who gave out free meals.

2. My grandparents on my father’s side were quite rich and somewhat famous. They lived in a mansion in Southern California. My dad, however, did not get along with them and completely rebelled, forfeiting his inheritance by growing his hair long, burning his draft card and throwing away his prestigious college education and baseball scholarship, in favor of becoming a beach bum. He didn’t believe in materialism, felt the public schools were for raising brainwashed sheep, detested Christianity and said marriage was just a piece of paper (though he did eventually get married he said he only signed the piece of paper because of reasons that my stepmom wanted, lol).

3. My grandmother on my mother’s side was a nudist. She spent her 50th birthday week at a nudist camp celebrating. She also used to practice white witchcraft and read the Tarot. When I was married my ex husband and I accidentally came across nude photos of her….with two men. They weren’t actually having sex in the pictures, but well, I can imagine what might have been going on, ha!

4. My mom is a drug addict and pretty hardcore. She’s tried to commit suicide twice and the first time the doctors said she was going to die but she didn’t. I’ve got a lot of resentment and anger towards her for this and some of her behavior in general. She was fired from a succession of nursing jobs for stealing hydrocodone and morphine from her patients and has been arrested and thrown in jail a few times for stealing. She’s quite the kleptomaniac. Somehow though, she always gets out of things. She doesn’t even bother to hire a lawyer and stands up in court and defends herself and the judge listens.

5. I was pretty badly physically, emotionally and mentally abused as a child, mostly by my stepfathers but I can’t discount my mother’s part in it all. Social services was called in when I was 7 due to my coming to school completely covered in bruises from being beaten so badly with a belt that I think I passed out. Like there wasn’t an inch on my body from the waist down (on the backside) that wasn’t bruised or welted. I had been feeling sick and couldn’t finish my dinner so I had wrapped some green beans and tomatoes in a napkin and thrown them in the trash and my stepfather found them. Anyhow that incident brought social workers into my home to try and help him learn how to discipline better but it didn’t really work. Even as bad as that was, the next stepfather was emotionally worse.

6. On a lighter note, we had a dog when I was little that rang the doorbell when he wanted to be let in the house. He was a German Shepherd that had been trained by my uncle.

7. I was homeschooled for a year of high school while living with my father and stepmother and didn’t follow any kind of curriculum but read a lot of great books and spent a lot of time at the beach. I think I learned more that year than all of my years of public schooling combined. I devoured book after book that I chose for myself as well as those my father and stepmother recommended. I read such works as The Brethren, Autobiography of a Yogi, The Autobiography of Malcom X, Hawaii by James Michener, as well as classics like Anna Karenina, several books by Charles Dickens, Hemingway, and Shakespeare, Moby Dick, 1984, Farenheit 451, Animal Farm, and I could go on all day. When I went back to public school the following year it was disappointing how painstaking my classic literature class really was and how they took the fun out of reading really good books by dissecting them to pieces.

Anyhow, now for my list of bloggers you will like!

inspiring-blogger-award

Your very own Lovergirl has been awarded the Very Inspiring Blogger Award! Thank you so much to the lovely Kay of the DAFT Diaries! Her blog is an inspiration to ME so I am especially honored!! If you haven’t gone over there to take a peek, please do!

The rules of this award are pretty similar to the others:

1.) Display the award logo on your blog.
2.) Link back to the person who nominated you.
3.) State 7 things about yourself.
4.) Nominate 15 bloggers for this award.
5.) Notify those bloggers of the nomination by linking to one of their specific posts so that they get notified by ping back.

So let’s get to the exciting stuff!! 😉

7 MORE intriguing facts about your favorite Lovergirl:

1. One of my most embarrassing moments ever was being caught masturbating by not one, not two, but THREE guys peeking in the window of my bedroom back in high school. They were three sort of nerdy neighborhood boys around my age who happened to come peer in between the slats of my blinds while I was fingering away. Of course, they had to spread the news far and wide and I denied, denied, denied!! Who me? I would never do such a naughty thing!! I’m sure everyone believed that one! NOT!! Total humiliation!

Nowadays kids seem a lot more likely to fess up about the fact that they masturbate, at least my kid does. I found an opened sample of baby shampoo in the boys’ room awhile back and the first thing out of my 13 year old’s mouth was “I WASN’T using that to jack off!!” Err….TMI son, TMI!!! LOL That never would have even OCCURRED to me if you’d kept your mouth shut!! Haha

2. I am in love with the SongPop game on Facebook. If I could design a perfect game that’s exactly what it would be like! I’m excelling in the Classic Rap, Classic RnB, Mowtown, and 80’s and 90’s music categories as well as doing pretty well with Duets, Funk and Soul. You know you wanna play me!! Nevermind that half the time when I’m playing I have LOUD kids in the background or people talking to me and distractions going on, I’m still killing it!! 😉

3. I’ve never been to a Karaoke bar. Never!! They were just starting to become popular back in the late 90’s while I was busy getting married to a man that was deeply involved in the church and ministry and totally against drinking or going to bars. There was no alcohol at my wedding (lame!!) He wouldn’t even go to movie theatres. We were that hardcore into conservative Christianity and we lived out in the middle of nowhere surrounded by Amish people. Someone needs to take me to one and soon!! 😀

4. When I lived near a secluded beach in Hawaii I used to sometimes hike up among the sand and rocks, strip off all my clothes and sunbathe or swim naked, fantasizing that some random hot guy would be watching and come along and fuck me. It never happened though! Where the hell are all the sexy strangers when you need them? 😉

5. I never went to my high school prom. I was having sex with a few different people but no one asked me. 😦 I guess they didn’t think of me as the type to take home to Mama. Plus, I didn’t have money for a dress. So instead I went to a three day music festival featuring local bands with a group of friends, managed to get in for free and had a crazy time. I’ll bet that was way more fun than a formal dance anyhow….

6. I taught Sunday School for years and Children’s Church and wrote and performed puppet shows and taught preschool and was a day camp counselor. My ex was in ministry and I homeschooled our kids. I’m like the queen of thrift and even used to make my own baby wipes and cleaning supplies and bread and tortillas and all sorts of stuff to save money. I’d bet you’d never guess I’d be the type to lead a secret life. Shhhhh……

Thing is that during that time, at least for the first 11 years of my marriage and the couple of years of dating my ex- husband before that, I WASN’T living a double life. I was faithful and beyond reproach, even though he wasn’t showing much interest in sex with me and even though I felt rejected and alone. I’m living proof that a ho CAN actually turn into a housewife….at least for awhile! I finally cheated ON my 11th Anniversary, a day that my ex -husband had refused sex with me anyway.

7. I ran away from home on my 14th Birthday, from my psychotic, crack smoking stepfather who had threatened to kill me with a gun. He was angry that I had been trying to tell people he was molesting my 6 year old sister. Someone had called the police after seeing him grab me and shove me onto the stairs and slap me across the face so I told them of his threat and he convinced them I was full of shit. They handed me a business card and told me he wasn’t allowed to make threats and to call if I had any more issues. So he unplugged all the phones in the house and sat in between the front and back door on the lower level of the house to prevent me from escaping.

I managed to climb out a second story bathroom window, hanging down and dropping from it to the ground below and made a run for my life. The cops never caught up with me though one time my stepfather came past a friend’s house where we were hiding alone and we stayed in a closet while he banged on the door and made threats, hoping he couldn’t see we were actually there. Eventually I turned myself in by going to school and was sent away to live with my father for a year and later with other relatives and my grandma but I never went back home to live with my mother. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. I could fill a book with true tales from my childhood that would make a great Lifetime movie.

And NOW, for the Grand Finale!! 15 fascinating bloggers that you absolutely MUST check out!! I noticed that some of my favorites are also on the list of the lovely woman who nominated me so I am trying to avoid repeats! There are just so many great blogs out there! DRUMROLL…. My First Blog Award!! :D

I am so excited!! My first ever blog award!! Thank you, http://seattlepolychick.com/ for nominating me!! 😀

My blog was started less than two months ago and I have been thrilled at the response level. I’m really happy that my writing has caught people’s attention and is being read by so many already. Seattlepolychick’s blog was one of the first ones I discovered on WordPress and I am especially honored that she found mine intriguing enough to mention! If you haven’t checked out her writing yet, please do. Her stories of everyday life as a polyamorous woman and her different lovers are fascinating and encouraging to me. 🙂

So here are the RULES of accepting the Liebster award, which I will try my best to follow,

* When one receives the award, one posts 11 random facts about oneself and answers the 11 questions asked by the person who nominated you.

*Pass the award onto 11 other blogs (while making sure one notifies the blogger that one nominated them!)

* One writes up 11 NEW questions directed towards YOUR nominees.

* One is not allowed to nominate the blog who nominated one’s own blog!

* One pastes the award picture into ones blog. (You can google the image, there are plenty of them!)

SO, without further ado…..

11 RANDOM FACTS ABOUT ME

1. I learned to swim before I learned how to walk. I started taking swimming lessons with a world renowned swimming teacher who worked with babies when I was 4 months old. Swimming still seems almost more natural than walking to me! I am an excellent swimmer and once saved a drunken man who had tried to commit suicide by drowning himself. He had swum way out to the middle of the lake and was screaming for help now that he’d changed his mind. He was twice my size but I managed to pull him back to shore.

2. Of all of my siblings that have the same mother I am the only “white” child. My brothers and sisters are racially and ethnically mixed (some with Hispanic, some black, and my stepsiblings are black). I jokingly refer to myself as “the white sheep of the family”.

3. I was a precocious child and by the age of 4, thanks to my grandmother, I was reading at an adult level. Because of this I was put in the gifted program at school. I stayed for a few years but the teachers complained that I was lazy and not living up to my potential. Probably this had something to do with the abuse I endured at home and an inability to focus on schoolwork or do homework. Still, school was always easy for me and I got pretty good grades with very little effort, acing pretty much every test that was given to me and even winning some awards for my writing.

4. I once danced in a rap video. No really, lol. It was the lamest, worst “rapper” you ever heard and part of a just say NO to drugs campaign. My high school media/film class and the Black Student Union at school were asked to take part and they filmed two separate videos. The first one was using all black kids and the second one, they needed some white people. I guess I fit the bill, haha. So we had to dance to this horribly pathetic guy rapping and it was shown to thousands of schools across the country in an effort to discourage drug use. I was smoking pot back then too. Shhhhh….

5. I used to work in a home for boys with behavioral disorders and now I have one of my own. Oh, boy, is it a challenge and you’d think I would be prepared to deal with it but every day can be a struggle. I never dreamed I would be here because I thought being a good parent would ensure having well behaved kids. I’m sad to say it doesn’t always work out that way. This one is trying to prove me wrong every step of the way. I’m humbled for sure.

6. I love to cook! I really enjoy trying new recipes and improving on old ones. A few years ago I put together my very own cookbook filled with recipes I’ve found and loved and gathered favorites from friends and family. I made copies for all my close friends and families and gave them as Christmas presents, interspersed with scrapbook pages with pictures of my family and those included on my list. It was a lot of work but so worth it! I use my cookbook all the time. and get calls from others who are enjoying it as well.

7. I didn’t have a TV from the time I started college until about 8 months ago (approximately 17 years) and barely missed it at all. I’m not a big television watcher even now that we have one because I rarely have the time for it. Back in the day I mostly watched MTV and VH1 anyway, when they actually played music videos. It’s always been hard for me just to sit there and WATCH something for hours. I don’t even like long, involved movies.

8. In the rare event that I actually watch television (usually only when I’m working out), I generally pick things that are light and funny. My favorite TV shows are The New Adventures of Old Christine and Sex and the City.

9. I love music, love to sing and was in choir much of my life. I am a bit too shy for solos but I’ve also been in musicals such as Oliver and Bye Bye Birdie in the past and a handful of plays. I don’t know how to read music and have never learned to play an instrument, though I always wished I’d had the opportunity.

10. I was a cheerleader in junior high. I never really could get into being one of the snotty girls though. I’m way too sensitive for that and used to get called on to go talk to the one (slightly) overweight girl on the squad all the time when she got hurt feelings because I was apparently the only one capable of being nice to her.

11. I’ve never mowed a lawn before. Or changed a tire or done any of a myriad of “man jobs”, lol. I can be a little bit prissy about things like that. Don’t wanna mess up my hair/nails you know!

My ANSWERS to the questions asked of me:

1. What are you most proud of?

I’m proud of myself just for making it through life thus far without completely falling apart! I’ve been through a lot but I’m proud of my resilience and ability to bounce back without allowing things to affect me negatively.

2. Who inspires you?

I’m inspired by my grandmother. She too, has had an amazing and interesting, but often very challenging, life and is one of the most cheerful and happy seeming people I know. She also looks so young for her age. I hope to be the same way!

3. What is your favorite holiday?

Christmas!! I love it! I love the feeling of Christmas, the generosity of people during that season, seeing my children’s eyes light up on Christmas morning, singing Christmas carols, all of it. 🙂 I refuse to let the materialism of the season get me down and prefer to see all the positives.

4. Who are some of your favorite authors?

Oh man. This should be easy because I love to read and love books but it’s just too hard to pick! Plus I haven’t been able to sit down and read much for MYSELF in ages! Mostly I am reading children’s books and classics with my kids. I’ve read a lot of books and a lot of really great authors but to even try to remember who my favorites are is just overwhelming.

I’ve read a lot of classic literature but I am just going to leave you with a couple books that I have read recently instead. They are of a more practical variety.

One is a must read for every woman, especially those who have been in an abusive or difficult relationship. It’s called Why Does He Do That? Inside the Minds of Angry and Controlling Men, by Lundy Bancroft. I went through that book with a highlighter and found my ex-husband, over and over and over again, which kind of surprised me because he had seemed so passive. It was really eye opening.

The other book is the one I am reading right now but still haven’t gotten a chance to finish. It’s called The Ethical Slut, A Guide to Infinite Sexual Possibilities, by Dossie Easton and Catherine A. Liszt.

5. why do you write a blog?

I’ve always loved to write and this blog is actually kind of therapeutic to me. It’s nice to be able to write out my experiences and feelings. My original purpose in starting it was to see if anyone would be interested in reading my writing. It’s been a long time dream of mine to write a book but I wondered if anyone would read it. I wanted to see how I did in the blog world first!

6. what did you want to be as a kid?

An actress, lol, of course!! 😉

7. who would play you in a movie about your life? (in your dreams)

Gosh, that’s a hard one! Maybe Sandra Bullock.

8. name 5 really great musicians or bands.

Oh wow, that’s like choosing which guy to have sex with!! 😉 LOL I love so many different musicians and bands, of various genres, though overall RnB is my favorite. More old school than the newer stuff though. Hmmmmm…. okay, how about Tom Petty, R. Kelly, the Isley Brothers, Anthony Hamilton and Jodeci. LOL

9. do you ever get jealous?

Yes, see my blog post on the Evolution of Jealousy for that one!!

10. do you believe in love that lasts forever?

You know, I believe love, as in caring for another person can last forever. Just like you love your kids and your siblings forever and your parents if you are a person who had parents who cared about you (I really didn’t). As for romantic love, I think the “romantic” part probably only lasts a few years. Then, it’s a different kind of love that isn’t as exciting. It can change to a caring love or sometimes it fades away.

11. anything odd that turns you on?

Odd? Probably not, but I’m not sure. I think most of the things that turn me on are probably pretty typical. I like guys that are really confident, dominant but not mean. I think I’m pretty normal in that regard. I like spankings and a little rough play but it seems that’s common.
